In this blog post I discuss two videos both of the links are at the bottom of the page.

In John Green's video, "How to become an Adult" he explains the importance of finding a mentor in your field. He also describes the first few years of Adulting as monotonousness and terrorizing. Both of these points resonate well with me because trying to find purpose in life and taking action towards career goals are difficult. Finding a knowledgeable other in the field you are passionate about is also monotonousness and terrorizing.

When I was Student Teaching, both of my cooperating teachers were helpful, inspirational, and full of great insights. Having great mentors helped me shape my craft of teaching, handling sticky situations, and improved my self reflection.

Ironically back in October, when I was at a frat party, their president asked me how to adult; I said find a mentor. I'm much better at giving great advice than taking it for myself.

The second video is of a girl who builds up the courage to shave her head. She is nervous, terrified, but ultimately thrilled that she accomplishes a task that is innately important to her. This video stuck out to me because there is a need to express who you are through your style, your work, and your personality. Knowing what you want in life is one challenge; making a plan and forcing yourself out of your comfort zone is an entire different ballgame.

My goals for this week include finding a mentor who is a professional event planner, and finding inspiration online and in real life to live up to my goals. I have made progress on a few goals: I'm helping plan a coworker's wedding, I have mentioned interest in helping plan events at my work, and I followed event planning people and companies on Instagram.

Once I can see that I have made progress with event planning, I will feel like the girl in the video. Accomplishing big goals are hard. Patience is even harder. Practicality is out the window.
