I have a confession. I wrote a blog post on Saturday; it was over bad days. How to handle them, exercises from books, and how to shift your mindset. My computer didn't save it. (Isn't that crazy? It's 2018 everything should be auto saved by now). My computer didn't fully connect to the WiFi. I didn't rewrite it. (Shame Jill- if you can't take your blog seriously when will anyone else?) Anyway, since then I felt I've had no idea what to write about.

Until this afternoon.

In the book, the sun and her flowers by Rupi Kaur she lashes out deep emotions to create a verse novel that resonates with the heartache, the social comparison, and the insecurities many women face on a daily basis. On page 64 she writes, " a lot of times/ we are angry at other people/ for not doing what/ we should have done ourselves/ -responsibility." This quote stood out from the rest of the book because it's very relevant to the topics on this blog and life as a whole.

How many times do we go through our day mad at someone for a situation that we could have fixed long before we decided to hate that person?

The theme of responsibility is constantly echoed throughout personal development/ self help communities. Some specific quotes from self help authors and speakers:

"Thoughts become things." Mike Dooley

"Confidence begins with action." -Mel Robbins

"You have to shift your mindset." - Jen Sincero

Although personal development is a responsibility, it should not be a chore. In Danielle Laporte's book, White Hot Truth in the first chapter she hatches out why spiritual development isn't a competition, a to-do list, or an addiction. She explains how spiritual development is twisted into something it's not, feeding into specific problems rather than solving them.

Both personal growth and spiritual growth take time. And no one's path is the same; just as no two people think the exact same thoughts, have the exact same emotions, and process situations in the exact same mindset.

In conclusion, once you are fully out of college are you your own responsibility. You make all your decisions. So make some ones that will benefit you down the line. However, both personal development and spiritual development aren't report cards. You drank wine instead of eating a kale salad? F You mediated daily for two weeks? A+ Working on yourself is a life long process.
